Biwater AEWT, Inc was selected by Ortega Industrial Contractor (General Contractor) and prequalified by AECOM (Owner’s Engineer) to design and supply the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane system for the Pinellas County Utilities’ Waste-To-Energy (WTE) Water Treatment Plant located at St. Petersburg, Florida. The entire project consists of the construction of a 2.5 MGD water treatment plant to treat water from an existing Pond A (receiving water from WTE facility runoff and demineralization system) with Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in the range of approximately 1900~3300mg/L. Feed water is pre-treated with coagulation, clarification, microfiltration, and cartridge filter. RO permeate is partially fed to WTE boiler as feed water and partially blended with RO feed water prior to entering the product water storage tank. Biwater AEWT’s scope of supply includes 2 x 1 MGD RO membrane systems and the associated RO feed and inter-stage booster pumps.
The RO membrane system is a 3-stage design with permeate output rated at 1 MGD per train. Each train is fed by a dedicated feed pump and two inter-stage booster pumps. It is designed at minimum 87% system recovery. Each train comprises of 28 pressure vessels (expandable to 35 pressure vessels) with 7 x 8” diameter membrane element per vessel.
