Located in the Hebei Province on the banks of the Chaobai River, Yanjiao Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ) faces Beijing across the river.
Being 30 kilometres east of Beijing, Yanjiao ETDZ covers an area of more than 30 square kilometres and integrates science and technology with manufacturing, tourism, finance and commercial activities. It has attracted investors from more than 10 countries including USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, with a total foreign investment of USD 600 million.
In October 2001, CJV (Yanjiao CWC) was established between The China Water Company and Sanhe Yanjiao Water Company to develop and manage water supply in Yanjiao ETDZ.
The water supply system comprises borehole for raw water extraction, chlorination, treated water storage and pumping.
The water treatment and supply facilities have been constructed in two phases and currently have a maximum output of 60 Mld.
The first phase of the project involved renovation of an existing 20 Mld water treatment works. This is currently operated once a month to ensure it functions correctly and it is maintained purely as a standby plant.
The second phase of the project required the construction of a new 40 Mld water treatment works. The plant was officially opened in August 2003, and comprised:
- Two 4,000m³ treated water storage tanks
- High lift pumping stations
- A chlorine dosing plant comprising a drum store with an adjacent emergency neutralisation system
- Two duty one, stand-by chlorinators
- Associated control systems
Both plants are fed from three borehole sites comprising a total of 20 wells up to 300 meters deep which are approximately 10 kilometres from the facilities. The operating level of the pumps is approximately 22 metres below ground, which is to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of high quality water.
The Yanjiao water treatment plant has ISO9001 accreditation covering the operation of the facilities.
