Biwater was awarded a contract for the expansion and rehabilitation of the Tamale Water Supply system. The agreement was signed between Biwater International and the Ghana Water Company Limited on 19th October 2005.
The expansion of the water treatment works and reduction of water losses through improved efficiency will almost double the supply of water to Tamale, providing 31.8 Mld. The improvements will include a new intake structure and pumping equipment, a raw water pipeline, additional water storage reservoirs, distribution pipework and a booster pump station.
The project will be joint funded by the Government of the Netherlands and the Government of Ghana and will be completed two years from the commencement date.
This reliable supply of potable water will also improve primary health care and social benefits as well as increase business opportunities and tourism to Tamale.
