I joined Biwater as Business Development Manager following 5 years in a similar position with an international water business where I operated in many of the same countries. My role sees me engaged in business creation, bid submissions and relationship management across a diverse range of cultures, locations and project types. The projects we are tackling are predominantly investment driven such as BOTs but we also participate in Design & Build projects in strategic areas. Our aim is to establish a long term business in key oil and gas economies utilising traditional core water business skills supplemented with newer membrane technology and applications, in particular reverse osmosis.

Since joining Biwater I have been impressed by the ambition of the company and its capability in all aspects of project development. We are able to react quickly to opportunities in the marketplace and demonstrate financial capability beyond our partners and competitors expectations.

I achieved my first degree in Civil Engineering in 1980 following by an MBA Finance at Cass Business School in 1997 in between which I worked mostly abroad, including Saudi Arabia, Holland, Indonesia and the Bahamas.

I am a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a MSc in Water Pollution Control Technology.

I joined Biwater Treatment in February 2005 as a Senior Process Engineer and worked on UK Asset Management Plan schemes and the design stage for Managua Wastewater Treatment Works for the capital city of Nicaragua in Central America.

In May 2006, since I had prior overseas experience and ability in Spanish, I was able to transfer to Biwater International to work in the Americas region. I spent the first 6 months responsible for the commissioning of two 1000 litres/second potable water treatment works in the Dominican Republic.

Currently I am based in Nicaragua where I am the Mechanical and Electrical Manager of the Managua wastewater treatment works supervising a team of 45 local personnel. I have been here since November 2006 and will probably stay until the end of installation and commissioning in 2008.

I’ve been working at Biwater for nearly 3 years, having worked in the water industry in my home country of New Zealand and abroad since graduating University in 1997.

My work involves me in various aspects of potable and wastewater treatment plant design through to the construction and commissioning stage of any particular project.

Whilst I’m based in the UK office in Dorking, the majority of projects I work on are actually international which requires good communication with our local staff in any particular country and often travelling to these locations to collect information and measure data relevant to the design and also to commission or optimise operation of the plants once constructed.

Many of the projects we work on have a significant positive effect on local infrastructure which is a very rewarding part of the job.

Working at Biwater gives me the opportunity to travel, meet and liaise with individuals in the business on a global scale. This international depth of experience provides great learning opportunities and a very enjoyable work environment.
