Managua, Nicaragua – 23rd March 2021: British water engineering company, Biwater, is pleased to be working with Haydale to trial its CeramyShield™ Ceramic Surface Treatment product at the Managua Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Haydale is a global technologies and advanced materials group that facilitates the integration of graphene and other nanomaterials into commercial technologies and industrial materials.

Haydale’s CeramycShield™ concrete surface coating uses nano-Alumina and Zirconia Silicates to renew and preserve concrete surfaces, which inhibits attack from water, chlorides, carbonation, biological infection, and sulfates. It was applied to one of Biwater’s primary clarifiers at the Managua site and has shown positive results.

Biwater will continue to monitor the performance of the product and ongoing discussions are currently taking place for collaboration on future infrastructure projects.

Keith Broadbent, Haydale CEO, said: “The results from Biwater’s trial in Nicaragua have been very pleasing and we look forward to further collaborations with Biwater as we see the product trialled across more sites.”

Javier Nunez, Biwater General Manager, commented: “The CeramycShield™ product was easy to prepare and apply to our primary clarifier. We have seen positive results and the adhesion of the product is excellent with no detachment present.”

The Managua Wastewater Treatment Plant has been operational for over 10 years in Nicaragua. Biwater carried out the design, construction, operation and maintenance of this first wastewater treatment plant to serve the capital city. Biwater continues to run the day-to-day operations of the plant and has expanded its scope of works to operate pumping stations across the city’s collector network and two additional nearby existing wastewater treatment plants.
