- Biwater signs Memorandum of Understanding with Ugandan Government to expand water supply and sanitation infrastructure
Surrey, UK – 6 September 2024: Biwater has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) of the Government of Uganda, marking a significant step in the expansion of the country’s water supply and sanitation infrastructure.
The MOU was signed following significant engagements between Biwater and the Government of Uganda, and grants Biwater the authority to develop and expand critical water supply and sanitation infrastructure for the rapidly growing cities of Jinja, Soroti, and Moroto, as well as the broader Karamoja Region, with Export Credit Agency financing.
The project aims to support the Government of Uganda’s pledge to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facilities through advanced technologies across Eastern and North-Eastern Uganda.
Stuart Smith, Director at Biwater, commented: "We are honoured to be entrusted with this strategic project and look forward to collaborating closely with NWSC and the Ugandan Government to contribute to the country’s Sustainable Development Goals."
Biwater has a longstanding history of delivering successful water treatment and sanitation projects across Africa, with notable initiatives in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and Malawi. This extensive regional experience provides a solid foundation for the successful execution of the ambitious project in Uganda.
